This video segment explores the value of ratification of international human rights treaties. It also explores why the identified Pacific Island Countries see the value of ratifying treaties and highlights the information and immediate steps that these states had/have taken to ratify some of the international human rights treaties; and how ratification of a particular treaty helped the state prioritise an issue and steps taken to address it at the national level.

Establishing and Role of NMIRFs

The NMIRF concept is a new one, and hence this video highlights how the identified countries (Kiribati, Vanuatu, Samoa) NMIRFs or similar structures are centrally placed not only to coordinate reporting but also to coordinate and track the follow-up recommendations or decisions of international and regional human rights mechanisms.

84 Extraordinary Outreach Session of the Committee on the Rights of the Child

The Pacific Community’s Human Rights and Social Development Division hosted a side event during the United Nations General Assembly to discuss the experiences and lessons learnt from the historic 84th Extraordinary Outreach Session of the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC84) held in Samoa. The outcomes from CRC84 demonstrated the potential value of regional sessions as a complementary modality to Geneva.
