It supports the specific advocacy campaigns through a package of assistance that includes advocacy training workshops, ongoing mentoring, provision of small grants to support individual advocacy campaigns and facilitating regional dialogue and exchange for advocates. The programme produces learning materials for use in the advocacy training, and by partner organisations.

Campaign highlights from 2018 to 2023

Federated State of Micronesia  

  • Age of Consent legislation passed in Pohnpei.
  • Disability Acts passed in Pohnpei, Kosrae and Chuuk states.
  • Maternity Leave Law amended to cover contracted female employees in Kosrae state.  
  • Pohnpei State budget passed for implementation of Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
  • Senior Citizens Association established and congressional support for social security in Pohnpei, FSM.
  • Climate champions network was established in Chuuk, inspiring youth active engagement in local climate actions.  
  • Food security MOU signed between farmers and Chuuk Department of Agriculture.
  • Implementation of the Maternity Leave Act in Pohnpei state.
  • A municipal government resolution established Net Women’s Day as a public holiday for Net municipal area in Pohnpei.
  • Partnership established between the Pohnpei State Department of Health and Agriculture to support backyard gardening for senior citizens.

Kiribati  

  • Strategic Plan endorsed for women’s participation in the maritime sector, and supported from the Ministry of Education to promote maritime careers and scholarships for girls.
  • MOA signed for Kiribati Institute of Technology (KIT) to mainstream Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) awareness into existing educational programs.

Republic of Marshall Islands  

  • Plastic Ban established and expanded with the Einwot Juon (Say no, Say never mind, to plastic in RMI) campaign. MOA signed with College of Marshall Islands to integrate Einwot Juon campaign into its existing school activities.
  • Public waste management service established and receptacles installed in Majuro.  

Palau  

  • Ministry of Health and Human Services endorsed the Gender based Violence (GBV) prevention promotional materials and training manual.

Solomon Islands  

  • Local bylaws amended to protect women and girls in Guadalcanal.  
  • Disability organisations established in eight communities in Malaita.
  • Agreement to amend the Islanders Marriage Act to prevent child marriage.
  • Women represented on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) committees in Malaita.
  • Cabinet Paper to include Temporary Special Measures to promote women’s election to provincial government.
  • The Auki Market Food Safety regulation, under the Solomon Islands Pure Food Act was developed and endorsed by the Malaita Provincial Government.
  • Market vendors in Malaita successfully met the MPG Environment Health section criteria for ongoing monitoring and inspection services.                                              
  • Community leaders and chiefs of the nineteen wards in Malaita province endorsed the community-based rehabilitation matrix.
  • Partnership with the Ministry of Meteorology to ensure warning and hazard risk information are accessible for People with Disabilities.
  • Development of the forest and freshwater conservation management plan for Roreaita.  
  • An uptake of family planning services and cervical cancer screening services in Malaita province.
  • Rangers and local communities enforced Protected Areas in Vella la Vella and Tookina from destructive logging.
  • Women and youths are represented in three council of chiefs in Are’Are, Malaita province.  
  • Isabel Provincial Government endorsed temporary special measures which contributed the election of the first female premier in 2022.

Tonga  

  • Parliament approval for the amendment of the definition of sexual offences in the Tonga Criminal Offences Act.
  • LGBTIQI+ referral system established with Police and Ministry of Justice in Tonga.
  • Age Care Givers in Tongatapu and Eua are providing inclusive disaster responsive information and services to the Senior Citizens and People with Disabilities.  
  • Established a Community Disability Inclusive Advisory Committee to connect People with Disability in Popua community to the local disaster preparedness and response agencies in Tongatapu.
  • Students in selected school in Tongatapu, Haapai and Eua are using Rugby as a platform to promote non-violence in school.

Tuvalu  

  • Women certified as counsellors to provide counselling support service to survivors of domestic violence.

Vanuatu  

  • Agreement to amend Child Maintenance Act in Vanuatu.
  • Disability-accessible buildings constructed in Luganville, Vanuatu.
  • Developed environmental conservation management plan for Vanmel Area.
