Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Adviser

Anita Afford is the Gender Equality & Social Inclusion Adviser, with a focus on PCA mainstreaming, within SPC's Human Rights and Social Development division. 

Her last role was Programmes Director and Gender Equality and Safeguarding Adviser for MSI Asia Pacific, supporting access to sexual and reproductive health services across the Pacific/Asia region. Before that, she was the Senior Equality and Inclusion Advisor for The Fred Hollows Foundation. She has worked as Programme Manager for a girls education NGO, One Girl, that has a focus on girls education in Africa. She has also worked across multiple divisions of Oxfam Australia, including managing a gender-based violence programme in the Solomon Islands and as coordinator for a regional inclusive programme in the Mekong region, based in Ha Noi, Vietnam. In Ha Noi she also worked for a local NGO on gender equality in land rights for ethnic minorities. She has lived and worked in Vanuatu, with a local youth and community development organisation, an Australia Volunteer Organisation and with DFAT.
