Brief Information

With over 25 years of professional experience nationally and regionally largely working as a gender and development and human rights practitioner, Arieta joined the Pacific Partnership to End Violence Against Women and Girls (PPEVAWG) project with SPC HRSD in late 2019 following roles with the Fijian Government Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Fijian Government Department of Women, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Fiji Office, UNIFEM Pacific Office, Greenpeace Australia Pacific, the Pacific Conference of Churches, the Pacific Islands Association of NGOs, Women’s Action for Change (WAC Theatre) and the Fiji Women’s Rights Movement. She’s also carried out gender-related consultancies under the UNDP, ILO and the ADB.

Arieta has worked on a wide range of substantive areas including: women’s human rights and economic empowerment; ending violence against women and children; gender mainstreaming; climate change advocacy and migration; organisational change; civil service reforms; human resources management. She’s also coordinated major events in her roles in the Fijian government and with IOM. During her tenure as Director for Women, the Department for Women held the first two highly successful National Women’s Expos in 2014 and 2015. During her tenure as Deputy Secretary Operations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Fijian Government hosted the Royal visit of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (October 2018) and the United National Secretary General (May 2019). During her tenure as Head of the IOM Fiji Office immediately after TC Winston, IOM Fiji received 81 metric tonnes of shelter relief items via a chartered Emirates cargo plane from the IOM Global Administrative Centre in Manila (April 2016).

Arieta holds a Bachelor of Jurisprudence from Bond University on the Gold Coast; a Masters of Business Administration from University of the South Pacific and a Masters in Diplomacy and International Relations from the University of Fiji.
